FMP Survival Guide
An independently designed learner resource that makes the expectations of a Final Major Project explicit, supporting learners to work with greater confidence, independence and direction.
The FMP Survival Guide was created as a flexible stretch-and-scaffold resource for creative media learners. It can be used independently when a learner is stuck, uncertain how to progress, or trying to interpret feedback, and it can also be used by a tutor to structure support conversations.
The guide breaks the project process into clear stages: context, research, problem solving, planning and production, practical skills, evaluation and reflection, and presentation. Each section translates assessment language into practical actions, examples, common mistakes and visible evidence learners can apply to their own work.
The resource was designed to make the implicit explicit. Rather than assuming learners already understand what strong research, development, planning or reflection look like, it shows them how these processes appear in practice and how they connect to grading criteria.
