Craft Beer Packaging

Atom Brewery

A special-edition craft beer packaging project for Atom Brewery, combining science-led naming, experimental image-making and structured brand extension across cans, multipacks and point-of-sale materials.

This project explored how craft beer packaging can balance shelf impact, product storytelling and brand consistency. Working from Atom Brewery’s existing science-led identity, I developed a special edition range titled Science is Art.

The final concept used scientific names and experimental visual effects to create four distinct beer identities: Anti-Gravity, Critical Mass, Heavy Element and Melting Point. Each design was created as part of a wider packaging system, including can labels, multipack carriers, 3D mock-ups and point-of-sale material.

The project began with research into craft beer branding, local breweries, market trends and packaging conventions. This led to a design approach that moved away from purely illustrative craft beer aesthetics and instead used controlled typography, bold visual experimentation and consistent layout systems to create a more distinctive range.
